Federico Viola nasce a Sarnico nel 1978, studia grafica pubblicitaria presso l’ISC di Milano e inizia la sua attività come illustratore per bambini. Coltiva la sua passione per l’arte producendo opere dall’aspetto ludico e giocoso ma che sottendono una sfera complessa di rimandi e riflessioni su tematiche sociali e ambientali di grande attualità.
Dal punto di vista strutturale, compone le sue opere partendo dalla figura centrale ben definita, che ha la funzione di attirare l’occhio dell’osservatore; essa costituisce il perno attorno al quale prendono vita le altre immagini. Ogni elemento porta con sé una molteplicità di significati espliciti e impliciti che dà il via a nuove associazioni fino a creare una fitta trama di personaggi e racconti che si intersecano in una danza ipnotica. Osservando le opere da una certa distanza, è facile individuare il disporsi delle figure a creare una sorta di nuvola, quasi una citazione delle famose nuvolette dei fumetti. Si verifica però un ribaltamento: nei fumetti le nuvolette sono parte della vignetta e hanno la funzione di contenere i dialoghi, in queste opere è il fluire di immagini a prendere la forma di una nube.

Federico Viola was born in Sarnico in 1978, he studied advertising graphics at the ISC in Milan and began his career as an illustrator for children. He cultivates his passion for art by producing playful works that underlie a complex sphere of references and reflections on highly topical social and environmental issues.
From a structural point of view, he composes his works starting from the well-defined central figure, which has the function of attracting the observer’s eye; it constitutes the pivot around which the other images come to life. Each element carries with it a multiplicity of explicit and implicit meanings that give way to new associations to create a dense plot of characters and stories that intersect in a hypnotic dance. Observing the works from a certain distance, it is easy to identify the arrangement of the figures to create a sort of cloud, almost a quote from the famous comic clouds.
However, a reversal occurs: in comics the clouds are part of the cartoon and have the function of containing the dialogues, in these works it is the flow of images that take the shape of a cloud.
